The strabismus specific whiteboard increased staff member understanding of procedure laterality (74% to 93%), muscle(s) to be operated (37% to 93%), and specific procedure(s) planned (37% to 87%). Choroidal neovascularization has been hypothesized to underlie the pathogenesis of subretinal fibrosis, yet its manifestations are rarely observed. We report a case of infantile primary hyperoxaluria type 1 in a 17-month-old infant with macular subretinal fluid and subretinal hemorrhage that was associated with leakage on fluorescein angiography and responded to bevacizumab treatment, consistent with choroidal neovascularization. This case suggests that choroidal neovascularization may contribute to subretinal fibrosis and subsequent vision loss in infantile primary hyperoxaluria and may benefit from anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy.Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 4 (MAP4K4) is implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus, insulin tolerance, inflammation, cancer, and atherosclerosis. We found that GNE 495 and PF 06260933 (both potent and selective MAP4K4 inhibitors) regulated human platelet activation. Immunoblotting revealed human platelets express MAP4K4, and that GNE 495 and PF 06260933 inhibited collagen-, ADP-, and thrombin-induced platelet aggregation and eventually suppressed granule release, TXA2 generation, integrin αIIbβ3 activation, and clot retraction. In addition, both inhibitors elevated intracellular levels of cAMP, and coincubation with GNE 495 and aspirin or dipyridamole (a phosphodiesterase inhibitor) synergistically inhibited collagen-induced platelet aggregation and TXA2 generation. Moreover, both inhibitors phosphorylated VASP (ser157), IP3 receptor, and PKA and attenuated MAPK and PI3K/Akt/GSK3β signaling pathways. This study is the first to demonstrate that MAP4K4 inhibitors reduce thrombus formation by inhibiting platelet activation. These findings also suggest MAP4K4 be considered an emerging target protein for the treatment of thrombosis.Characterization of the complexity of electroencephalogram (EEG) responses has provided important insights in cognitive function as well as in the brain bases of consciousness and vigilance. Whether brain response complexity changes during prolonged wakefulness and sleep deprivation -when vigilance level considerably varies- is not fully elucidated yet. In the present study, we repeatedly assessed EEG responses to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) over 34 h of sleep deprivation under constant routine conditions in healthy younger (N = 13; 5 women; 18-30 y) and older (N = 12; 6 women; 50-70 y) individuals, while they were performing a vigilance task. Response complexity was computed both at the global (all scalp sensors) and local (sensors surrounding TMS hotspot) levels using the Lempel-Ziv algorithm. Response complexity was significantly higher in the older compared to the young volunteers over the entire protocol. Global complexity response significantly changed with time spent awake, with an increasing trend from the beginning to the middle of the biological night, followed by a decreasing trend from the middle of the biological night to the following afternoon. An unexpected different link between vigilance performance and brain response complexity was detected across age groups higher response complexity was associated with lower performance in the older group, particularly in the morning sessions. These findings show that cortical activity complexity changes with vigilance variation, as experienced during sleep deprivation and circadian misalignment, in two age groups, with no evident time course difference across age-groups. We found that MPP+ induced cell senescence with increased β-galactosidase activity and the expression of p53, p21 and p16 activation in cells. Several epidemiological studies have reported that these products' high intakes have a positive link with cancer incidence. In Algeria, industrially processed meat products are widely consumed. However, there are no earlier studies involving their genotoxic activity. For this end, the current study aimed at evaluating the mutagenicity and the genotoxicity of some representative industrially processed meat products sold in popular supermarkets. All samples were extracted by established method, using both polar and non-polar solvents. The meat extracts mutagenicity was assessed by Ames test, using four strains of Salmonella typhimurium in the presence and absence of metabolic activation, and subsequently by treat and wash assay for extracts showing biologically significant results. The genotoxicity was determined in TK6 human lymphoblastoid cells using the in vitro micronucleus assay in micromethod. The results showed that all extracts analyzed induce no mutagenic activity.
